Try a form on your live store before shoppers see it

Test mode shows a form only on pages with

Preview shows how a form looks. It can't show how the form behaves on your real theme, with your real cart drawer and your real discounts. To see that, you used to have to publish the form and hope shoppers didn't catch it first. Test mode puts the form on your live store where only you can see it.

How it works

  1. Turn on Test mode in the Audience section of the builder's right panel.
  2. Click Save version. If the form is off, click Turn on too.
  3. When the panel says Testing on your store, use Copy test link or Open.

The form now shows only on pages whose URL contains #ft-test, for example https://your-store.com/#ft-test. Shoppers browsing normally never see it. Send the link to a colleague or open it on your phone, and they'll see what a real shopper would see.

Until everything is in place, the panel shows Not testing yet and the step that's missing.

Your audience rules are paused, not lost

While testing, your audience rules don't apply, so anyone with the test link sees the form, even on the wrong device or after they've already signed up. Your rules aren't changed or removed. To go live, turn the switch off and click Save version, and they apply again exactly as before. Until you do, the panel reminds you that Your store is still in test mode.

How often it shows still applies while testing. If the form stops appearing after you close or submit it, open the test link in a private window.

Works with experiments

Test mode is locked while a form's experiment is running or paused, so every arm keeps showing to the same shoppers. A test can't start while any of its forms is in test mode, either.

See Test mode for details.
