Display, teasers & triggers

Choose how a form appears, invite shoppers with a teaser, and control how often it shows.

How a form shows up on your storefront — and how persistent it is — is as important as what's inside it. Formtoro gives you display types, teasers, and frequency controls.

Display types

Pick a display type when you create a form (and change it later in the builder):

  • Popup — a centered modal.
  • Side panel — slides in from the edge.
  • Embed — placed inline within a page.
  • Banner — a slim bar.
  • Full page — a takeover experience.

Teasers

A teaser is a small, clickable prompt that invites shoppers to open the form instead of showing the whole thing immediately. It's a gentler, less intrusive entry point — great for keeping the storefront uncluttered.

Teasers are supported for popup, side panel, and full page forms. (Embedded forms render inline, so they don't use a teaser.)

Enable and configure a teaser in the builder's Teaser settings:

  • Enable teaser — turn the teaser on.
  • ModeBubble (floats in a corner, the classic popup feel) or Banner (sits at the top or bottom and pushes content down — recommended on mobile, where it won't clash with cart drawers and announcement bars).
  • Edge — for Banner mode, Top or Bottom.
  • Position — for Bubble mode, which corner or side it sits in.
  • Teaser text — use the form's first heading, or Custom text (e.g. "Get 10% off").
  • Background and Text color.
  • Initial displayStart open (the form opens at full size) or Start as teaser (only the teaser shows until clicked).
  • When dismissed — what the close button does (see below).
  • Allow full close — show an extra close control that hides the teaser entirely.

Mobile vs. desktop teaser

The teaser settings have Mobile and Desktop tabs. Mode, edge, and position can each be overridden for desktop, so (for example) you can use a top banner on mobile and a corner bubble on desktop.

Dismiss behavior

When a shopper clicks the close button, one of two things happens depending on your When dismissed setting:

  • Collapse to teaser — the form shrinks back to its teaser, so the shopper can reopen it later. (Reopening clears the collapsed state.)
  • Hide completely — the form and teaser disappear.

If you enabled Allow full close, the teaser also gets its own close control that hides it entirely, even when the form is set to collapse.

How often a form shows

Set a form's Display frequency under its trigger settings to control re-showing:

  • Until completed (default) — keep showing until the shopper finishes the form (submits, is redirected, or explicitly closes the teaser).
  • Every visit — show on every eligible page load.
  • Once ever — show at most one time on that browser, ever.
  • Once per session — show at most once per browsing session.
  • Custom interval — show again only after a set number of days.

Formtoro remembers these states in the shopper's browser, scoped to your store, so they carry across pages. In private/incognito browsing (where the browser blocks storage), the form simply shows on each load.

Eligibility comes first: a form only reaches the frequency check if the visitor matches its audience.
